Ta Pitharia Tavern

pithari  (pi'θari)
noun
Large ceramic container.

"Pithari" was used for the storage of oil, wine, vinegar, water, or corn.

Tradition claims that the greek philosopher Diogenes (412 BC- 323 BC) had renounced all luxury and his permanent residence was a “pithari”.  In this way he wanted to prove that the joys of life are those offered by nature and that all other human needs are artificial.
